RFID
Radio Frequency Identification is a generic term that is used to describe a system that transmits the identity of an object or person wirelessly, using radio waves. A typical RFID Tag or label consists of a microchip attached to a radio antenna mounted on a substrate. The chip can store as much as 2 kilobytes of data. For example, information about a product or shipment, date of manufacture, destination and sell by date can be written to a tag. To retrieve information from a tag, you will need a reader and software to read the information.
RFID Tags can be used for many different tasks:
- Tracking inventory for just in time manufacturing
- Tracking goods in supply chain management
- Tracking assets internally for security purpose
Mepco Label Systems offers RFID tags and labels, along with scanners and software. Mepco also offers RFID thermal transfer printers, and print and apply applicators, that print on the label while programming and verifing the RFID tag.
